COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch Intermediate School District Superintendent Kris Jenkins told the district’s Board of Education on Wednesday what to expect as the COVID-19 vaccine is rolled out.
The counties served by the Community Health Agency will be getting the Moderna vaccine since the extreme refrigeration for the Pfizer vaccine is unavailable. Jenkins says shipment of the Moderna vaccine is expected to start on Sunday pending F.D.A. approval.
She said schools throughout Branch County have been willing to provide space to the Health Department for the vaccinations if it’s needed.
Jenkins said when a person gets a vaccination they will have to wait 15 to 20 minutes in the vicinity to see if there is going to be a reaction.
Because of the possible side effects, Jenkins suggested shots be taken in shifts by people in the B.I.S.D. who choose to get vaccinated.
The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are not to be mixed and Jenkins said no one can mandate the vaccine because it’s under an emergency approval.
