COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Community Health Agency Health Officer Rebecca Burns told Branch County Commissioners on Thursday that the number of positive COVID-19 cases has slowed in the last few days.
She added it looks like some of the things that have been put in place as part of the pause instituted last month by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services are working.
Statistics from the C.H.A. show there have been 100 new positive cases reported in Branch County between last Saturday and Thursday. In comparison, from December 6 through last Friday there were 196 new cases.
Branch County has had a total of 2,583 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since last March. A total of 51 Branch County residents have died after testing positive for the virus.
Burns went over the upcoming roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine which she said will be in house by early next week.
Branch, Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties will get the Moderna vaccine which was recommended for approval by an F.D.A. panel for emergency use on Thursday.
The three counties don’t have an ultra cold freezer that is needed for the Pfizer vaccine.
Burns added they will have to keep spreading the message about the effectiveness of the vaccine and that it’s safe.
