BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The overnight snow and frozen precipitation made for some tricky driving conditions around Branch County on Wednesday morning.
What started off as nearly an inch of snow Tuesday night turned to sleet and freezing rain during the overnight hours. That led to untreated roads turning into skating rinks.
Crews from the Branch County Road Commission and the Michigan Department of Transportation treated and salted the roads during the late night and early morning hours.
Branch County Central Dispatch reported there were nearly a dozen traffic accidents during the early morning hours but there were no serious injuries.
Branch County was part of a large area that was placed under a Winter Weather Advisory for mixed precipitation until mid morning on Wednesday.
Conditions improved as the temperatures warmed up into the mid 30s and the precipitation turned to rain.
Forecasters are watching the next storm system which could deliver a mixed bag of freezing rain, snow and sleet on New Years Day.
