BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – National Weather Service forecasters say it will be an icy start to 2021.
Branch County is included in a Winter Weather Advisory which will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Forecasters say mixed precipitation is expected in portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio with total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch.
If you must travel on the holiday, plan on slippery road conditions. With the possibility of ice accumulations, you should prepare for any possible power outages.
This will be the second round of icy precipitation this week. A mixed bag of snow, sleet and freezing rain Tuesday night and Wednesday morning led to very slick driving conditions.
There were about a dozen crashes or slide offs reported to Branch County Central Dispatch between midnight and noon on Wednesday. Two of the crashes involved minor injuries. One was on Jonesville Road west of North Briggs Road the other was on Union City Road west of Hodunk Road.
