QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A fire Thursday night at Speedrack in Quincy was contained to a machine’s electrical motor.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 9:20 p.m. on a report of a building fire.
The fire was contained inside a paint machine and ventilation system when Quincy firefighters arrived.
Quincy Police evacuated the building and took all of the Speedrack employees across the street to the Quincy Village Hall for safety.
The Quincy Fire Department reports the equipment was immediately de-energized with the help of maintenance staff. Crews then stood by for over an hour to monitor the temperature of the equipment before they were able to disassemble the machine as according to officials, this situation created a significant and very dangerous dust explosion hazard.
After the machine was opened, it was determined that the fire was contained to an electrical motor with no other extension to the rest of the paint line or the building.
Coldwater firefighters assisted at the scene. Crews were on the scene for over an hour and a half. No injuries were reported.
