COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Engineering and Technical Services Director Jim Odneal reported to the CBPU Board of Directors on Wednesday that the load for the Butters Avenue substation is expected to be transferred by the end of January.
He said the ITC portion of the substation is complete and energized along with three separate sources.
It’s expected the transformers will start to get energized next week.
Odneal said the site work on the property will likely drag into the spring. That would include work on the culverts and stoning outside of the fence.
It’s hoped the new $4.6 million substation will alleviate loading restrictions at the Garfield Road substation.
B.P.U. officials say it will improve reliability for roughly 5,000 customers connected to the Garfield Road and Bennett Street substations as the new substation will reallocate load from those two locations.
