COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Family Video store at 571 East Chicago along with other Family Video stores will be closing their doors sometime in the near future.
The company started 42 years ago. Their videos started in the Beta era before moving to VHS and eventually to the era of DVD and Blu-Ray.
But C.E.O. Keith Hoogland of Highland Ventures Ltd. said in a letter posted Tuesday on the company’s web site that the impact of COVID-19 not only on foot traffic but also in the lack of movie releases pushed them to the end of an era.
Family Video lasted ten years longer than Blockbuster Video, Movie Gallery and Hollywood Video as consumers went away from going to stores and renting movies when they could more easily do it on line.
The Coldwater store along with other Family Video stores will close once merchandise is liquidated. Family Video also had stores in Angola, Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.
