OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The sausage is still being made in Ovid Township when it comes to solar power.
Township Supervisor Greg Gemmill says a Tuesday night Ovid Township Planning Commission public hearing regarding amendments to the zoning ordinance for Solar Energy Collectors was conducted on Zoom and it attracted 57 participants.
The meeting wound up lasting about two-and-a-half hours. No formal action was taken.
The proposed Ovid Township Zoning Ordinance would amend and revise the regulations on Solar Energy Facilities and the duration of Special Land Use Approvals.
The proposed draft resolution can be found on the township’s web site which is www.ovidtownship.org.
Questions and issues that were raised during Tuesday night’s hearing will be addressed by consultants from McKenna and Associates. Another public meeting has been scheduled for January 26. The original ordinance was adopted in 2006.
All of the discussion comes as Coldwater Solar wants to build a $150 million project that would cover up to 1,500 acres in Coldwater and Ovid Townships. Two smaller solar projects in Ovid Township are already in operation.
A partner of Coldwater Solar has agreed not to file for a project application until April 15 in exchange for the township not issuing a moratorium on solar projects.
