KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration, the demand for gasoline has fallen to the lowest level recorded since the end of May 2020.
Gas prices in Michigan are down 5 cents compared to a week ago and drivers are now paying an average of $2.17 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 18 cents more than this time last month but still 46 cents less than this time last year. In the Kalamazoo area, GasBuddy reports the lowest prices ranging between $1.93 to $1.95 per gallon. The Battle Creek area is showing higher prices, generally between $2.15 to $2.25.
Domestic crude prices climbing above $50 per barrel and growing total refinery utilization have contributed to higher pump prices in some parts of the country.
