COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In anticipation of having audiences again, the Tibbits Opera House has made several COVID-19 related changes to help make the building safer.
Tibbits has invested in a PHI (Photohydroionization) Unit for its air handling system. The unit uses ultraviolet light to kill micro-organisms in the air. They are then easily captured by air filters.
After the unit was installed, all of the ducts and air returns in the theater were professionally cleaned. Air filters have also been replaced with higher-rated air filters.
Tibbits got a partial rebate for the improvements from the Branch County Economic Growth Alliances COVID-19 Rebate program.
To meet recommendations by the CDC, socially-distanced seating has been created and seating will be limited for events. Plexiglas and hand sanitizing stations have been installed by the staff and there will be additional cleaning.
Anyone attending an event at the Tibbits will be required to wear a mask as they enter and move around the theater. Concessions will be available at events only as state restrictions allow.
Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney says they surveyed its audience to learn how to best meet their expectations. Survey results indicated the wearing of masks was one of the items which allowed the most people to feel the most comfortable.” Delaney said, “If you choose to attend we ask that you please respect the choice we’ve made for the best interest of the theatre. For those who are just not ready to return, we understand and wish you good health. We’ll be here when you’re ready.”
