Stanley Duane Preston, 98, of Quincy went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. Stanley was born on October 9, 1922 to Henry and Hattie Olmstead Preston of Coldwater. In 1942, Stanley and his parents relocated to a family farm south of Quincy.
Stanley married Maxine Fillmore on March 23, 1944. The couple celebrated nearly 74 years of marriage. Stanley and Maxine worked with his parents, Henry and Hattie, on the Preston Turkey Farm, later to become a dairy farm.
Together Stanley and Maxine raised four sons: Duane (Karen) of Mentor, Ohio; Martin (Linda) both deceased; Keith (Paula); and Glenn (Suzy) both of Quincy. Jukka Muurimaki of Helsinki, Finland, came as an exchange student in 1970, and has become a dearly beloved member of the family. Stanley was known as Grandpa Preston to 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Stanley was active in the community. He served on the Quincy School Board, Branch County Fair Board, County Board of Canvassers, and many others. He was also a member of Country Couples, Quincy United Methodist Church, Good Sam, and S.O.W.E.R.S. (Servants on Wheels Ever Ready).
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife Maxine, son Martin, daughter-in-law Linda, parents Henry and Hattie, and his sisters: Irma English, Thelma Preston, Dorothy Shug, and Neva Davies.
The family will celebrate and honor Stanley at a private family service. Memorial gifts may be made to the Branch County Fair, 262 S. Sprague St., Coldwater, MI 49036
Stanley enjoyed a life of farming with his sons and grandsons. He also found great joy watching and being with his great grandchildren. He based his life on faith, family, and farming.
