James “Jim” Dudley Hedgcock, 69, of Bronson passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family while under hospice care after a courageous battle with sarcoma.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2021 at St. Mary’s of Assumption Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Redmond officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. A maximum of 25 people in the funeral home at a time and masks are required.
James was born January 22, 1951 to Sloan and Wanda (Ridley) Hedgcock in Fort Wayne. Jim graduated from Bronson High School with the class of 1969 and later earned his Associates Degree. On May 15, 1976 he married the love of his life, Diane Skandis at St. Mary’s Church in Bronson. Jim worked for 42 years as a Project Manager for Consumer’s Energy, retiring in 2016.
Jim was a man of faith and a longtime member of St. Mary’s where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a 3rd Degree with the Knights of Columbus. He had many interests over the years. Jim played football and wrestled in high school. He was very involved in bowling and also liked golfing. Jim was a good cook and also played the piano. He was a fan of watching Notre Dame with his son Daniel and also Pittsburg Steelers football games. Jim will be remembered by many for his yearly birthday calls to sing happy birthday. His true joy in life was spending time with his family and attending the events of all the family members. He will be missed by many.
Jim is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane Hedgcock of Bronson; his daughter Bridget (Andrew) Valley of Wayland, MI; his bonus daughter Jennifer Parks of Marshall; his siblings Daryl VanOstenbridge and Robert (Joyce) Hedgcock all of Bradenton, FL, Virginia (Mark) Garrison of Albion, MI and Paul (Jan) Hedgcock of Union City; his grandchildren Audrey, Haley, and Nicholas Taylor; his mother-in-law Rose Skandis; his best friend Daniel McKinley; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his dog “Niles”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Walter Skandis and his son Daniel Hedgcock.
