Krystal Kay Terpening, 33, of Quincy, died peacefully in her mother’s arms on Saturday, January 16. 2021 at the Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, after a 20-year battle with various health issues.
She was born on Oct. 5, 1987 at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater, to Timothy and Lisa (Todd) Terpening, of Reading. Her parents, Lisa (James) Tubergan of Quincy and Timothy (Sandy) Terpening of Pittsford, survive.
Krystal attended Reading and Quincy community schools, before graduating from Franklin Alternative High School in Coldwater, in 2006. In addition to taking some college courses over the years, Krystal worked at Meijer, Broadway Grille, Chicago Street Pub and Speedway. She had also worked as a security guard and was known to volunteer for various organizations during her life. Her favorite work of all was the work she did with her Amish family.
Krystal will be fondly remembered for her spunk, can-do attitude, loyalty, giving spirit and contagious smile. When she was healthy and often when she was not, she would put on a happy face and tackle whatever the day brought her. She enjoyed dancing, listening to music, playing board and card games, writing – specifically children’s stories – taking off for a drive, snuggling with her fur babies, Boe and Bandit, working renaissance fairs with her friends, Steve and Barb Anson, and spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Lisa (James) Tubergan of Quincy and Timothy (Sandy) Terpening of Pittsford, she is survived by her grandmother, Rhue Hunsicker of Coldwater; two brothers, Jeremy Terpening of Kalamazoo and Michael (Estella) Terpening of Georgia; one step-brother, Justin (Rachel) Tubergan of Alaska; one step-sister, Jessica Tubergan of California; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and “adopted family.”
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, George Todd, Jr., Lloyd Hunsicker, Jr., Jack Terpening and Nadine Terpening; and one cousin, Ronald Todd.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021 at the Amish home of The Millers, 493 Quincy Grange Road, Quincy, MI, from 1-8 p.m. Cremation will take place, and a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
