COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County Jail inmate has been charged with backing up a toilet and flooding several jail cells on Christmas Eve.
35-year-old Bradley Earl Burd of Homer has been charged with Malicious Destruction of a Building between $1,000 and $20,000.
According to Branch County court documents, Burd is accused of flushing a jail issued bed sheet which led to the flooding of multiple cells.
Four of the cells had to be evacuated and an emergency call had to be made to Roto Rooter.
Plumbing specialists removed a bed sheet and several towels from the pipes. Maintenance staff had to be called in after hours to clean up the flooding.
Damages to the jail plumbing were estimated at about $3,000.
Burd was arraigned in Branch County District Court on Tuesday. Bond was set at $10,000.
A probable cause hearing was set for February 2 with a preliminary exam on February 9.
