COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two long time members of the Coldwater Fire Department have earned promotions which become official on February 1.
The City of Coldwater announced on Wednesday that Chad Hilton has been promoted to Captain while Jackie Supianoski, who was the first female in the history of the department, has been promoted to Lieutenant.
Hilton is a second-generation firefighter who has been with the department for 24 years. He began as a part-paid firefighter in October of 1996.
Hilton was hired full-time in September 1998. He was later promoted to Driver/Operator in March 2000 and to the Lieutenant’s position in May of 2004.
Hilton has also gained several certifications over the years.
Coldwater Fire Chief David Schmaltz says, “Lt. Hilton has worked very hard over the last couple of years to achieve this promotion. I have all the confidence in the world that he will do an outstanding job for the citizens of Coldwater.”
Supianoski has 15 years of fire service experience. She started working for the fire department in April of 2002 as a part-paid firefighter. In April of 2007, she was hired as a career firefighter, promoted to Driver/Operator in 2014. Her accreditations include a BS in Criminal Justice, a BS in Fire Safety and Engineering
Technology, and Fire Officer, EMT, and EMS Instructor certification.
Schmaltz stated, “The Lieutenant position is one of the most demanding jobs in the Coldwater Fire Department because it requires the individual to be a manager as well as a worker. I believe that Jackie is up for the challenge and will certainly excel.”
