DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Centreville quarterback Sam Todd passed for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Bulldogs captured the M.H.S.A.A. Division 8 championship on Friday morning with a 22-0 victory over Ubly at Ford Field in Detroit.
Todd passed for 130 yards and ran for 70 yards. He had 200 of Centreville’s 286 yards of total offense.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bulldogs struck for two touchdowns in the second stanza. Todd scored from two yards out and then hooked up with Tyler Swanwick on a 31 yard touchdown pass with only eight seconds left in the half.
Centreville tacked on another touchdown in the third quarter when Todd and Swanwick hooked up from 12 yards out.
The Bulldogs defense recorded their eighth shutout this season as they held Ubly to just 142 yards of total offense and six first downs.
Centreville finished 11-0 and won the schools first championship ever in football.
The program has come a long way from just a few short years ago. The Bulldogs finished below .500 between 2009 and 2017. That drought included 1-8 seasons in 2015 and 2016.
