UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City Police Officer Travis Ferrry has been selected as the State of Michigan Officer of the Year by the American Legion.
According to a post on the village’s Facebook page, Officer Ferry was selected for his role in multiple recent incidents which included awards for performing lifesaving CPR and helping to bring a safe resolution to a situation involving an armed suicidal person at an area business.
Ferry will represent Michigan in the National competition.
The Union City Village Council honored Ferry and Fire Chief David Hughes in November of 2019 for their quick response and skill in saving a 73-year-old man’s life after he suffered cardiac arrest. Hughes and Ferry used CPR and a automated external defibrillator to revive the man before he was flown to an area hospital.
Ferry also received a ”Chief’s Award” from the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police Department in April of 2019 for his actions during the previous December near Athens when he assisted on a call involving an armed man which ended peacefully.
