BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Both of the Coldwater High School Bowling teams opened their season with wins over Jackson Lumen Christi on Tuesday afternoon at Jax 60 in Jackson. Coldwater the boys meet 28-2. Austin Johnson led the way with a 211 game and 388 two game series total.
The boys swept the regular games 826 to 709 and 927 to 755, taking total 1753-1464, also taking both baker games 197 to 187 and 158 to 124
The young Coldwater girls varsity team started strong as they posted a 29-1 victory. The girls were led by Annabelle Kling with a 168 game. The team took both regular games 719 to 524 and 702 to 515 and totals of 1421 to 1039. Coldwater outscored Lumen in the Baker games 139 to 103 and 149 to 135 for a total of 288 to 238.
Unfortunately Lumen couldn’t field any JV squads. Both Coldwater teams will see action at home on Thursday, January 28th against Hastings.
Meanwhile, the Quincy boys dropped their season opener to Manchester 17-13 on Tuesday at Chelsea Lanes.
Quincy was slow to start dropping the first baker game 157-205. Baker two went to Quincy by just 4 pins 158-154. Manchester captured the overall point total scoring 6-4 in Baker action.
Singles saw two Orioles score with Brodie Mainstone shooting a 201 and Caden Moore dropping a 193. Game 2 went to hot handed Brandt Neely with a 217 to lead all scorers on the night. Cody Neusbaum would come in after the 4th frame to help capture Quincy’s 2nd point with a 158 split game.
Despite only capturing only four points in singles, the Orioles picked up top total in game two and tie overall total for the night at 1737.
The Quincy JV’s saw action as well. Manchester normally fields a JV team but only had two active bowlers. The Quincy JV’s was led by Freshman Draven Baker with a 287 series and Brady Harper with a 277 series. Freshman Cameron Barry struck 3 of 4 during Baker play and ended the night with 4 marks for a 258 series. Quincy travels to Jackson on Friday to take on Grass Lake.
