COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Health Officer Rebecca Burns told the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency Board on Thursday they have seen significant reduction in demand for the pop-up testing clinics they have been running throughout the district and that the events held in January saw many fewer participants.
Burns says staffing the pop-up testing events is now an issue with the focus on vaccine clinics so she has pitched an idea to the state where Honu staff are provided a space within the health department to set-up and then go out to vehicles that arrive for patient appointments. This would not involve staff support from the local health department and provide a warm sheltered place for Honu staff to be set-up. Burns said they would try this first in Coldwater sometime in the near future.
Burns also said she was proud of their partnership efforts in the tri-county area and their plan at this time is to provide one mass clinic per week for first COVID-19 vaccine doses in each county.
Burns added they are currently vaccinating individuals who meet state criteria for the phase of vaccination they are currently in which is terribly frustrating and often confusing to the public.
But Burns said she has gotten some good news on the amount of vaccine becoming available for next week and she expects they will get an increased amount. She expects to know how much vaccine they will get on Friday.
