BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service has moved a Winter Storm Watch further to the north and it now includes Branch, Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties.
The watch will be in effect for 24 hours starting at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night. National Weather Service Meteorologist Todd Holsten says the snow will cover a wide area.
He says uncertainty over how much snow is expected on Sunday is why the Winter Storm Watch will last for 24 hours.
Northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio are also included in the Winter Storm Watch. As of Friday afternoon, forecasters were calling for up to six inches of snow in Michigan’s border counties with Indiana.
Heavier amount of snow are expected to the south of Branch County. Angola could get up to seven inches of snow while up to eight inches could fall in Fort Wayne.
Forecasters say the snow will move in quickly Saturday night from southwest to northeast. The snow is expected to arrive in Branch County at around 10:00 p.m.. The snow may be heavy at times after midnight with overnight accumulation of three to four inches expected around Branch County.
The snow is expected to taper off Sunday morning with lingering snow showers throughout Sunday.
