COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A suspect in a bizarre garage break-in on Clarke Avenue last October entered guilty pleas in three cases Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
In connection with the garage break in, 28-year-old Peeter Ora Berry admitted his guilt to a charge of larceny from a building.
Coldwater Police say the owner of the Clarke Avenue property where the break in took place held Berry at gun point in the garage until officers arrived. A home video security system captured the entire incident.
In the two other unrelated cases, Berry entered guilty pleas to attempted larceny of weapons and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
All other charges in the three cases will be dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for the guilty pleas.
A sentencing hearing was scheduled for March 15.
The Clarke Avenue homeowner discovered the break in when he came home from work and saw a light on in the garage along with a strange vehicle in the driveway. There was also a lot of smoke in the garage. It was later determined if came from a fog machine the homeowner was going to use for Halloween.
As the homeowner investigated the garage, he saw a mattress had been moved which had a rifle and two boxes on it. Christmas lights were also plugged in and according to the homeowner, the suspect had music playing from his stereo. The homeowner saw the suspect coming out from behind a car while drinking some milk from a refrigerator in the garage. The homeowner says he is a valid CPL holder. He got a gun from his vehicle, called 911 and held the suspect until police arrived.
The homeowner says the suspect took some steaks and other food and cooked the food on a grill. The suspect is also accused of drinking some beer that he found in the refrigerator. The homeowner’s wife says she and her children were in bed asleep during the whole incident.
