COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As the Coldwater Planning Commission approved a special land use permit request Monday night for the fifth proposed adult use marijuana establishment east of U.S. 12 and I-69, a Planning Commission member had questions about the potential number of such businesses coming into the city.
Dave Rumsey felt there was a lack of planning in Coldwater.
Commission Chair Aloha Miller said some of the businesses will not be able to make a go of it.
Commissioner member Mike Beckwith said someone from economic development needs to come before them.
City Planner Dean Walrack said he would put an update on downtown planning from either Lisa Miller from the Branch County Economic Growth Alliance or her assistant Audrey Tappenden on a future agenda.
The Planning Commission approved the Special Land Use permit request from Aim High Meds LLC of Sherwood for a retail recreational marijuana operation from the existing commercial structure at 880 East Chicago.
The building is in between the Auto Zone store and the building where Prompt Care is located at.
FIVE in Coldwater? Is this the only way you can fill storefronts? Yes, PLAN! Where is the planning commission at? What does our Master Plan say or need to say about this? I mean we saw this coming for at least 2 years, get moving!
