COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -The coldest air of this winter has surged into the Great Lakes region, mixed with a blast of snow late Thursday afternoon.
The mix forced schools that were originally scheduled to be open Friday to close. That included Bronson, Tekonsha, and Union City, as well as the Branch Intermediate School District. Coldwater Community Schools already had an adjusted schedule for the week, with Friday a Virtual Google Meet Day. Quincy Community Schools had previously cancelled classes for Friday.
The cold air will remain in place through next week with temperatures well below normal. In addition, dangerously cold wind chill temperatures are expected.
Lows on Monday morning will be in the single digits with wind chills dipping below well zero.
Forecasters say the wind chills will plummet to at least 20 degrees below zero.
At these temperatures, exposure to the elements will put animals and people at grave risk of hypothermia. Make plans now to prepare.
