UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – With a stretch of cold weather coming up that will feature wind chills well below zero, the Village of Union City has issued a run water advisory to all its water customers.
Utility customers will get a call from the village’s emergency automated system that will advise to run a small stream of water from a faucet in their home to help prevent lines from freezing, especially during the night.
All customer’s March bills will be capped to a seasonal average to account for the extra usage so that the customer will not be paying for the extra usage.
Village officials say this is a preventative measure and they have yet to have any reports of frozen lines.
But that could change as the weather forecast is calling for about 10 days of temperatures in the single digits at night and only rising to the teens during the day.
If you have any questions, call the village office at (517) 741-8591 during business hours.
The City of Bronson is also recommending to their water customers to let the faucet drip or trickle to prevent pipes from freezing. This can prevent expensive plumbing repairs. As a rule of thumb, when the temperature is in the teens or below it is a good idea to let the water drip/trickle.
