COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Lady Cardinals broke open a close game in the final quarter on Thursday night as they defeated the Hastings Saxons 50-30 at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium for their first victory of the season.
Coldwater led 24-20 at the half and they were only up by one point late in the third quarter. But a quick six point spurt finally allowed the Cardinals to open up some breathing room and they led 34-28 entering the final quarter.
Coldwater outscored the Saxons 16-2 in the fourth quarter as Hastings did not record a field goal.
Coldwater’s Abby Herman scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Brooke Moore came off the bench to score 14 points and Jayla Foster had seven points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Allison Miller had four points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
The 1-1 Cardinals made hay at the foul line as they were 14 of 16 at the stripe.
Hastings swept the underclassmen games. They won the JV game 21-11. Cara Miller had four points, eight rebounds and three steals while Jaelah Sloan had four points and seven rebounds. The Saxons won the freshman contest 26-10. Isabella Pool led the Cardinals with six points.
