COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man has been charged in connection with the January 21 break in of the Smile Avenue Family and Comestic Dentistry office on the west side of Coldwater.
29-year-old Johnathine Eric Handshoe was formally charged during an arraignment on Monday in Branch County District Court with a felony of breaking and entering as well as a second time habitual offender sentencing enhancer if he is convicted.
He was charged following a Coldwater Police investigation. According to court documents, the dentist office was ransacked during the break in. Items stolen included a Detroit Tigers hat, a 1968 World Series baseball, a fanny pack, candy bars, a Tigers program, a necklace and other office items.
A surveillance video showed the suspect entering the building with a plastic bag and then exiting with the same plastic bag but much bigger.
Handshoe was arrested a few days later at a local gas station. He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and being a disorderly person. In addition, Handshoe was wanted on a warrant out of Calhoun County.
His total bond is $35,500. Handshoe is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing on March 11th and a preliminary exam on March 16.
