ADRIAN, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School gymnastics team traveled to Adrian on Friday night for a conference match up against the Adrian Maples. Upon arrival, the team was notified that it would be a quad meet including Adrian, Monroe, and Ann Arbor. Coldwater was able to make some key lineup changes due to the changed competition format to come out on top, securing the win against Adrian, as well as the other two teams. The Cardinals posted 128.2 points, followed by Monroe with 127.35 points. Adrian was next at 70.55 points, followed by Ann Arbor with 19.6. Coldwater is now 3-1 in the conference.
Coldwater opened the competition on the vault, tallying 33.20 points. Avery Boyce led the way, scoring a season best at 8.55 points for first place. Leah Goodwin placed 3rd.
On the uneven bars, Coldwater posted 30.65 team total points. Senior standout Abby Travelbee claimed first place for her efforts at 8.75 points. Layla Schoch was next scoring 7.7 for Coldwater, in spite of a fall during her giant swing.
The Lady Cards took to the beam for the third rotation, where they earned 31.4 team points. McKenna Hantz was the top scorer for Coldwater at 8.05 points for second place overall. Freshman Slusarski posted an impressive 8.0 points for her stuck routine to tie for third place.
Coldwater tallied 32.95 points in their final rotation on the floor exercise. Junior Avery Boyce posted a personal best score of 8.5 points to tie for first. Randi Dudek and Sarah Forrister tied for third place with a score of 8.2 each.
Avery Boyce was the only all-around gymnast in the competition for Coldwater, earning 30.45 points for a fourth place finish overall.
Coldwater will host the cooperative team of six Jackson Area high schools on Monday at home for their toughest conference matchup of the season. The meet begins at 6 PM in the auxiliary gymnasium.
