BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Cougars of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School won the Sturgis Christian League Upper Level Tournament for grades five through eight on Saturday at St. Mary’s Assumption in Bronson.
It was the third tournament championship for St. Charles in the last four years.
The Cougars were the regular season league champions going undefeated for the fourth time in the past five years. On Saturday they had to play back to back games with Trinity Lutheran and the Raiders of St. Mary’s.
In the first game, St. Charles won 45-24. Leading St. Charles in scoring were Alex Richards with 13 points, Andrew Richards had 11 points and Carson Haylett with 10 points.
In the second game, St. Charles won 39-34 in double overtime. This was the second time St. Charles and St. Mary’s played an overtime game this year. Leading the Cougars in scoring were Richards with 16 points, Brody Haylett with 13 points and Jimmy Maynard with eight points.
