READING TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Reading resident was lodged in the Hillsdale County Jail on Tuesday night after the Michigan State Police say the 32-year-old subject got drunk and fired a weapon outside of a residence.
Troopers from the Jackson Post say the incident happened in the 6500 block of South Edon Road in Hillsdale County just after 8:00 p.m..
They were sent there on a report of a person yelling and shots being fired.
When they arrived, troopers discovered the subject was intoxicated and upset. It was determined the intoxicated subject exited their residence, began yelling, and then fired several rounds from a handgun into the wooded area behind the residence. No injuries were reported.
The subject was taken into custody and lodged at the Hillsdale County Jail on probable cause of being in possession of a firearm while intoxicated and reckless discharge of a firearm.
The firearm was recovered. It was discovered during the investigation that this same suspect was arrested in 2018 for a similar offense involving similar circumstances.
The name of the suspect is being withheld pending review of the incident and charges by the Hillsdale County Prosecutors Office. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Reading Police and the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department.
