Kieffer Bellows scored the tying and go-ahead goals in a span of just over three minutes in the third period as the visiting New York Islanders remained red hot with a 3-2 victory Saturday over the host New Jersey Devils at Newark, N.J.
Oliver Wahlstrom scored an unassisted coast-to-coast goal in the first period and Semyon Varlamov made 26 saves for the Islanders, who have won eight consecutive games and 10 of their last 11 (10-0-1).
Pavel Zacha and Janne Kuokkanen scored for the Devils, who have lost three straight (0-2-1) and 11 of their last 13 (2-10-1). Goalie Mackenzie Blackwood recorded 26 saves.
Zacha scored the game’s first goal 6:37 after the opening faceoff and the Devils nursed a 2-1 lead through the end of the second period following Kuokkanen’s goal at the 1:04 mark.
Rangers 4, Bruins 0
Keith Kinkaid stopped all 18 shots he faced, Artemi Panarin registered an assist in his return from a leave of absence and New York ended a three-game skid with a victory over host Boston.
K’Andre Miller, Chris Kreider, Ryan Strome and Pavel Buchnevich scored and Mika Zibanejad had two assists to back Kinkaid, who posted his first shutout since Nov. 15, 2018. Panarin hadn’t played since Feb. 20 after stepping away from the team amid unsubstantiated assault allegations that surfaced in his native Russia.
Jaroslav Halak had 29 saves for the Bruins, who have lost six of nine (3-4-2).
Lightning 6, Predators 3
Tampa Bay’s Blake Coleman and Tyler Johnson each notched a goal and an assist in the host Lightning’s win over injury-riddled Nashville.
In moving to 10-1-0 on home ice, the Lightning got markers from Mathieu Joseph, Alex Killorn, Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli. Erik Cernak and Ondrej Palat each produced two assists.
Yakov Trenin collected a goal and assist — dishing out the helper on Alexandre Carrier’s first career tally — and Erik Haula scored on the power play for Nashville, which slipped to 1-5-1 in March and 1-2-1 on its seven-game road trip.
Jets 5, Maple Leafs 2
Adam Lowry scored in the third period to end a tie and visiting Winnipeg went on to defeat Toronto in the rubber match of a three-game series.
Lowry, Mason Appleton and Mark Scheifele each had a goal and an assist for Winnipeg. Nikolaj Ehlers and Paul Stastny also scored for the Jets. Andrew Copp added two assists.
Jake Muzzin and William Nylander scored for Toronto.
Blue Jackets 4, Stars 3 (OT)
Zach Werenski scored with 4.5 seconds left in overtime to lift host Columbus over Dallas.
Max Domi, Cam Atkinson and Nick Foligno paced the Blue Jackets with a goal each in regulation time. Jack Roslovic added three assists. Andrew Cogliano, Andrej Sekera and Denis Gurianov each scored once for the Stars, who outshot the Blue Jackets 30-26.
Second-year goalie Elvis Merzlikins withstood the Stars for the win in the Columbus goal, while rookie Jake Oettinger took the loss at the other end.
Penguins 3, Sabres 0
Goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped all 24 shots he faced, and Jake Guentzel, Sidney Crosby and Mark Jankowski scored to lead visiting Pittsburgh to its fifth win in a row, a shutout of reeling Buffalo.
It was DeSmith’s first shutout of the season, fifth of his career and second against Buffalo. He was playing for just the fourth time in the Penguins’ past 17 games. It was the first shutout win this year for Pittsburgh.
The Sabres dropped their 10th straight game (0-8-2). They have scored two or fewer goals in eight of those games and been blanked three times. It was the fifth time this season they were shut out. Carter Hutton, who entered the game 5-1-0 in his career against the Penguins, stopped 31 shots.
Capitals 5, Flyers 4
Carl Hagelin and Nick Jensen each had a goal and an assist to lead Washington past host Philadelphia for the third time in the past week and extended its overall winning streak to four games.
Daniel Sprong, Alex Ovechkin and Nic Dowd scored one goal each for the Capitals, who swept all three of the games in regulation. Garnet Hathaway and John Carlson contributed two assists apiece for Washington. Capitals goaltender Ilya Samsonov stopped 28 shots.
James van Riemsdyk, Nolan Patrick, Shayne Gostisbehere and Claude Giroux scored goals for the Flyers. Travis Sanheim and Jakub Voracek had two assists each. Flyers goaltender Brian Elliott allowed three goals on 10 shots and was replaced by Carter Hart, who made 11 saves on 13 shots.
Panthers 4, Blackhawks 2
Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves to earn his fifth straight victory and Aleksander Barkov had two goals and one assist, leading Florida to a win over Chicago in Sunrise, Fla.
Brandon Hagel scored early and Adam Boqvist got one with 92 seconds left for the Blackhawks, who got 31 saves from Kevin Lankinen. But it wasn’t enough for the Blackhawks, who lost for the third time in four games.
The Panthers, who also got goals from Carter Verhaeghe and Frank Vatrano, have won five of their past six games, including three straight. Vatrano has seven goals in nine career games against Chicago.
Flames 3, Canadiens 1
Sean Monahan scored a pair of goals to pace host Calgary past Montreal to earn consecutive wins for the first time in more than a month.
Goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped 24 shots for the Flames, who have won both outings since Darryl Sutter took over as coach. The Flames — who reached the midway point of their season — have won three of four clashes with the Canadiens this season.
Carey Price stopped 33 shots for the Canadiens. Jeff Petry put Montreal on the board with his 11th goal of the season, tops among the league’s defensemen, with 5:40 remaining in the second period.
Sharks 3, Ducks 1
Martin Jones made 26 saves and Evander Kane scored a goal for the third straight game as visiting San Jose completed a sweep of its back-to-back with Anaheim.
Kevin Labanc and Dylan Gambrell also scored for San Jose, which extended its winning streak to a season-high three games. It was just the second win for Jones since Feb. 15.
Max Jones scored for Anaheim, which dropped its third straight game, getting outscored 14-2 in the process. Ryan Miller finished with 30 saves.
Golden Knights 5, Blues 1
Mark Stone scored twice to lead Vegas past St. Louis for its eighth win in its last 10 games.
Max Pacioretty (goal and two assists), Shea Theodore (goal, assist) and Chandler Stephenson (two assists) also had big games for the Golden Knights, who swept the Blues in the two-game set. Alex Tuch also scored, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves.
Sammy Blais scored and Ville Husso made 21 saves for the Blues, who saw their seven-game point streak (4-0-3) snapped. The Blues are just 4-7-3 at home this season.
Canucks 2, Oilers 1
Tyler Myers scored a third-period, game-winning goal, Bo Horvat also had a goal, and Thatcher Demko was outstanding, making 34 saves as host Vancouver edged Edmonton for its fourth win in five games.
With the score tied and overtime looming, Myers took a pass at his point position, stepped into the right circle and blasted a top-corner slap shot for his fourth goal of the season with 10:37 remaining in regulation. From there, Demko held the fort while under siege as the high-octane Oilers pushed for the equalizer but couldn’t find it.
Mikko Koskinen made 26 saves for the Oilers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped and blew a chance to pull within two points of top spot in the North Division. Leon Draisaitl scored Edmonton’s goal in the second period.
