ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – The Steuben County Board of Commissioners has officially scheduled a public casino forum for Thursday, October 8, at 6 p.m..
The event will take place at the Steuben County Event Center, located in the Steuben County Park at Crooked Lake.
Hosted in partnership with the Steuben County Tourism Bureau and the Steuben County Economic Development Corp., the forum fulfills a promise made by local officials to provide a venue for open community dialogue when initial discussions surrounding a potential casino development first began.
Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with local elected officials, government departments, and economic representatives to address questions regarding a potential resort-style casino development.
This educational forum arrives just weeks before the November 3, 2026, general election, where local residents will face a binding public referendum on the ballot.
Authorized under House Enrolled Act 1038 signed by Governor Mike Braun, the legislation mandates voter approval in Allen, DeKalb, or Steuben county before the Indiana Gaming Commission can consider a license for a new inland casino facility.
The upcoming informational forum aims to provide clarity on the economic impacts, infrastructure requirements, and findings of a gaming market feasibility study ahead of the November ballot referendum.
Currently a group is pushing for a resort style casino to be located just across the Michigan state line near Walters Lake which is less than two miles from the Branch County line.
