GIRARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 25-year-old man from Saline who admitted to police he had used methamphetamine was arrested early Monday morning after Michigan State Police responded to a home invasion in progress.
State Police at the Marshall post say they were called to the 200 block of Hawley Center Drive just before 1:00 a.m..
A resident inside of the home told Troopers he was awoken by a loud noise to find a man had gotten into his unlocked vehicle and appeared to be in the process of stealing items.
The home’s resident was armed with a legal handgun. He confronted the suspect who became aggressive, claimed to be the rightful resident to the address, and forced his way into the home.
The resident was able to get the suspect out of his home without using the firearm and managed to call 911.
State Police say the suspect appeared to be under the influence and initially was not cooperative with officers.
The suspect was eventually arrested without incident. Troopers say he appeared to be hallucinating and was later lodged at the Branch County jail on multiple felony charges.
There were no reported physical injuries.
