COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Three Rivers man with a criminal record that dates back to 1982 is facing eight charges after Michigan State Police troopers say they discovered drugs and various weapons in his vehicle that they stopped early Monday morning in the City of Coldwater.
56-year-old Arnold Scott Wright was arraigned on Monday in Branch County District Court on six weapons charges as well as counts of possession of methamphetamine and third degree fleeing and eluding.
Troopers say they tried to pull over a vehicle for an equipment violation at around 1:00 a.m. Monday on Morse Street near State Street but the vehicle failed to stop. Troopers broke off the slow-moving vehicle pursuit after several blocks and then watched the vehicle pull over and park in a nearby parking lot.
State Police say they found a small baggie of methamphetamine which field tested positive. They also found a loaded magazine for a 9mm firearm.
A 9mm firearm was also found in the car as well as a taser and metallic knuckles.
Court records indicate Wright has multiple prior felonies that precludes possession of weapons and ammunition. Prosecutors also filed a fourth time habitual offender sentencing enhancement should Wright be convicted.
Possible felony charges are being examined for the 47-year-old female passenger from Coldwater who was eventually released at the scene.
