BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – For the second time in three nights on Wednesday, the Bronson Vikings defeated a Branch County rival in a close ballgame.
The Vikings won for the sixth time in eight games as they defeated the Quincy Orioles 44-40 in a Big 8 Conference game at Bronson.
This win came after the Vikings edged Union City 42-41 on Monday night.
As the score would indicate, points were hard to come by in the defensive battle. Bronson led 9-5 after the first quarter and 20-16 at the half. The third quarter was even as Bronson took a 33-29 lead into the fourth.
Bronson led 41-40 with less than a minute to go. Quincy had a chance to take the lead but two foul shots were missed with 45 seconds left. After an exchange of turnovers, Quincy had another chance to go ahead but the Vikings came up with another steal and managed to seal the win at the foul line.
Reagan Mayer scored a game-high 17 points for Bronson which included three buckets from beyond the arc. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Connor Covey had three steals for the Vikings.
Quincy was led by Kyler Economou with 12 points, 17 rebounds and 2 assists. Kyle Rodesiler had 11 points and six rebounds.
Bronson improves to 9-7 overall and 7-6 in the Big 8 Conference. Quincy drops to 6-9 overall and 5-7 in the league.
