COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The cause of a fire which destroyed a mobile home north of Coldwater on Friday afternoon is under investigation.
Coldwater Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz says the blaze at 178 Narrows Road near the Randall Lake boat launch was reported at 4:29 p.m..
The residence was occupied when the fire broke out but no injuries were reported. The fire was called under control at 5:02 p.m..
The Coldwater Fire Department with automatic aid from the Quincy Fire Department responded to the blaze.
Schmaltz says there was heavy smoke showing and fire was coming from both the east and west sides of the trailer when crews arrived.
The fire was knocked down but the wood frame trailer was called a total loss.
Damage was estimated at $30,000 to the property and $20,000 to the contents.
The fire forced the shut down of Narrows Road between River and Union City Roads. Crews were on the scene until 7:18 p.m..
The Branch County Road Commission set up barricades to keep traffic away. Life Care Ambulance, the Branch County Sheriff’s Department, the Sheriff’s Department Victim Services Unit and the Michigan State Police also assisted.
