COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education agreed Monday night to enter into negotiations with Branch County Communications and 911 Board on a piece of property at the soon to be closed Lakeland Elementary School for the County’s 911 Project.
Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan and the district’s Building and Grounds Committee would be involved in the negotiations with the county.
The county wants to use a portion of land in the northeast corner of the property for one of five new towers that will be built over the next few months for a new 800 megahertz radio system. The new system is designed to provide better coverage for police and firefighters throughout Branch County. It would replace an old system that dates back to the early 1990’s.
The other tower sites would be in Quincy, Coldwater, Union City, and Bronson.
The new Lakeland 4th and 5th grade school building is scheduled to open on April 12 when students return from Spring Break.
In other business, the board approved a bid of $171,922 submitted by E.V. Construction for the demolition of the old Franklin School on South Fremont Street.
Whelan said MVAH Partners of Butler County, Ohio will be making a third attempt to get Michigan State Housing Development Authority tax credits to help fund Coldwater Senior Villas at the site after just missing twice.
She said MVAH would pick up half of the demolition costs.
The nine-and-a-quarter acres of land has been conditionally rezoned by the City of Coldwater. Contingent on the awarding of the tax credits from MSHDA, the property will be rezoned from A-1 One Family Residential to A-3 Multi Family Residential.
MVAH Partners want to buy the property for $220,000.
Sneaky city and school board lied about the retirement villa at Franklin School and now moved it back to section 8 family complex and Wheelan buries it under an old headline about a tower. Good old boys still playing hard ball/ Well so are we!
