COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a recommendation made earlier this month by the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors on Monday night that water and wastewater rates increase starting on July 1.
Water and Wastewater Cost of Service studies authorized by the B.P.U. board and conducted by Utility Financial Solutions reflected an overall rate increase of 2.9 percent for water and 1.9 percent for wastewater per year for the next three years.
U.F.S. President Mark Beauchamp said during a B.P.U. Board meeting on March 3 about 93 percent of the B.P.U.’s water customers have five-eighths inch meters. He said over the three year rate track, the average residential customer will see a monthly increase of about $1.05 in the first year, $1.20 in the second year and 90 cents in the third year.
For wastewater customers who have five-eighths inch meters, they will see monthly increases of 40 cents in the first year and 85 cents in each of the next two years.
