COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A residence was destroyed while two others were damaged in a fire early Wednesday morning at the Somerset Mobile Home Community.
The Coldwater Fire Department along with automatic aid from the Quincy Fire Department was dispatched at 1:58 a.m. to the structure fire at 127 Vermont Drive just east of Hodunk Road.
A tanker was then requested from the Bronson Fire Department.
The home was occupied by Raymond Crick. It was occupied when the fire broke out. No injuries were reported.
Damage to the single family home was estimated at $25,000 while there was $10,000 worth of damage to the contents inside.
Fire Marshal Steve Trall says firefighters arrived to find the home totally engulfed in flames and the exterior of the neighboring home at 125 Vermont Drive on fire. The exterior of the neighbor’s home was quickly put out.
The fire at 127 Vermont Drive was under control after about 30 minutes but crews were unable to completely extinguish the fire until the gas could be shut off by Michigan Gas at about 4:00 a.m..
Crews remained on scene until 5:55 a.m.. The homes to both the east side and west side of the incident were damaged by heat from the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Other agencies assisting on scene were: Lifecare Ambulance, Michigan State Police, the Branch County Victims Assistance Team, the Red Cross, Michigan Gas, and Consumer Energy.
