COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Local health officials are concerned about the upwards trend of new COVID-19 cases over the last few weeks following a steady decline during February and early March.
The latest data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services shows the percentage of new positive cases in Branch County increased to 11-point-1 percent between March 17 and 23.
Of the 709 tests that were performed in Branch County, 79 came back positive.
The positivity rate was up from the seven percent that was recorded between March 10 and 16.
Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency Health Officer Rebecca Burns stopped short of calling this a surge during the Agency’s Health Board meeting on Thursday morning.
Branch County’s 11-point-1 percent positivity rate on new COVID-19 cases puts it at Level C which is third highest level in the M.D.H.H.S. metric on the risk of contracting the virus.
The statewide seven-day positive rate on new COVID-19 cases has gone up to eight-point-seven percent after being at six-point-four percent last week.
