BUTLER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – An early Thursday morning fire at a Butler Township home which was being renovated is being called accidental by fire investigators.
Quincy firefighters with automatic mutual aid from the Coldwater Fire Department were dispatched to 983 Clarendon Road at 5:14 a.m. where they found an unoccupied two story home fully involved in fire.
Tankers were also brought in from the Litchfield and Homer Fire Departments for assistance.
With the help of Branch County 911 and the Branch County Sheriff’s Department, it was later confirmed the owner of the home was safe at their Coldwater residence.
Quincy fire officials say the home was recently purchased and was under renovation at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is believed to have originated from spontaneous combustion of oily rags and staining materials that had been discarded on the porch the evening before.
The fire was declared out at 7:51 a.m.. No injuries were reported.
So far, Quincy firefighters have responded to 21 fires in March. This makes the eighth building fire that Engine Company 33 and Quincy Firefighters have responded to in the last 21 days, five of which have been in the last week.
