W. Valerie (Val) Youngquist, 91, of Coldwater, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Grand Vista Assisted Living.
A memorial service will take place at a later date. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater.
Val was born July 22, 1929 in Detroit, MI to John (Chick) & Wilma (Innes) Kennedy. In 1940, they moved to Coldwater. Val graduated from Coldwater High School in 1948 and had attended Western MI University and also Tri State University.
She was married to John Dean in 1949, they divorced in 1966. They had two sons. J. Gregory Dean and Jeffrey Dean. Val married Jack Youngquist on February 2, 1968. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2008 after 40 years of marriage.
Mrs. Youngquist was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She had sold real estate with Dale Dean and worked as a secretary at Washington School and at Climax Corp.
Val attended the First Baptist Church in Coldwater and volunteered with the CHC Auxiliary and Red Cross. She was a member of the Fort Knightly Music Club, the Grey Ladies and enjoyed playing golf, bridge, needlepoint, gardening and spending time with her family and pets.
Val is survived by her son Jeff (Teresa) Dean of Coldwater, her grandchildren Morgan (Casey) Longstreet, Eric (Chris) Dean, Jesseca (Farst-Dean) & Christopher Johnson; step grandchildren Michelle Scheetz & Jennifer (Ross) Broadway; her great grandchildren Madison Scheetz, Evan Dean, Emma Dean, Riley Scheetz, Renner Longstreet, Callen Longstreet, Daisy Broadway, Oliver Broadway, Alivia Jones, Adesyn Jones & Wesley Johnson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Gregg Dean.
Memorials may be directed to the Branch Co. Humane Society or the Naomi Davis Shelterhouse.
