BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – A total of 15 Branch County wrestlers punched their tickets for the M.H.S.A.A. Individual wrestling finals on Saturday by finishing in the top four of their weight classes.
Union City hosted a Division Four regional tournament where Bronson got six through to the state finals including regional champions J.C. DePaz and Justin Blankenship.
DePaz won the 171 pound title on a 10-6 decision over Logan Sallows of Hudson while Blankenship scored an 8-4 decision over Cameron Underwood of Hudson to capture the crown at 215 pounds. DePaz and Blankenship both won district titles last week.
Other Vikings qualified for the state finals were Logan Long (2nd-119), Dakota Miller (4th-125), Craig Tappenden (2nd-160) and Jared Sholtzman (4th-189).
The host Union City Chargers managed to get four through to the finals. District champion Garrett Iobe finished second at 152 pounds while Andrew Linnaberry-Smith (140), Robert Heckman (171) and Grady Iobe (215) all finished fourth.
Three Quincy wrestlers qualified for the Division Three state finals. Jacob Reif (112) and Gerl Pish (160) both finished third at the Constantine regional while Tyler Saterlee (189) was fourth.
Two Coldwater wrestlers will be going to the Division Two state finals. Logan Pike finished third at 112 pounds at the Mason regional while Marshall Hoard was fourth at 135 pounds.
