ROCKFORD, MI (WTVB) – The M.H.S.A.A. State Gymnastics Finals took place this weekend at Rockford High School, one year after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the state finals to be cancelled.
Abby Travelbee, Layla Schoch and Leah Goodwin of Coldwater qualified for the Division One individual finals that took place on Saturday.
The daylong competition featured gymnasts from 33 high schools around the state.
Goodwin earned 8.7 points for her vault performance. The junior finished her season in a tie for 27th place overall in the state.
Travelbee performed on the uneven bars and scored a solid 8.325 points. The senior standout closed out her high school career placing 24th in the state. Abby was honored by the Michigan High School Gymnastics Coaches and Judges Association as a nominee for the Senior of the Year award for her efforts as a Cardinal gymnast.
Travelbee, along with Schoch were named Academic All-State for their performances in the gym and in the classroom for the 20-21 season. The gymnasts were honored for earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
