UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – About $90,000 worth of interior renovations and upgrades at the Union City Senior Center are expected to take place this spring.
Senior Center chair Steve Searls reported to the Union City Village Council recently that a contract with Eicher Builders of Burlington was approved by the Senior Center committee.
They will build floors, walls and ceiling in four rooms. They will also build a handicap accessible bathroom and do other assorted work on the building.
Another contract with Motor Shop Electric was approved by the committee. Work was completed in 2020 on exterior roofing, painting and signage.
Searls says there was steady progress in 2020 but the pandemic slowed the timeline. The goal is to still to open the building in later this year.
The project to convert the old Putnam Funeral Home building into the Union City Senior Center was funded solely through community donations and grants.
When finished, the multiple use facility will be available to senior citizens and other residents in the community.
