GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WTVB) – Parma Western fell one game short of playing for a Michigan girls basketball state championship.
The Panthers were beaten by Portland 45-38 on Wednesday evening in the M.H.S.A.A. Division Two semifinals at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
Newaygo defeated Detroit Country Day 55-39 in the other Division Two semifinal.

The M.H.S.A.A. Boys Basketball semifinals will take place on Thursday. Pennfield will face Bridgeport in the Division Two semifinals at 5:30 p.m. at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. The winner plays either Ferndale or Grand Rapids Catholic Central for the D-2 state title on Saturday.
