SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Go Fund Me page has raised over $36,000 which will be used to help pay the medical expenses for two Sherwood Township youngsters who were badly injured when they were struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon near their home while riding their bikes.
According to the Go Fund Me post entitled “Risner Clan Will Find A Way”, it’s hoped $50,000 can be raised. Over $10,000 was raised in the first five hours after the page was created on Tuesday.
13-year-old Landen Risner is at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo with a severe brain injury. As of two days ago, he was sedated and on a ventilator.
Six-year-old Roman Risner suffered a femur fracture and had plates and screws inserted during surgery.
Michigan State Police say the suspect vehicle in the hit and run crash was found Tuesday at a residence on Hackman Road near Sturgis thanks to a citizen’s tip. The driver was identified as a 42 year old Sturgis man. The investigation is continuing as the recovered vehicle has been impounded.
The driver’s personal cell phone is being examined by the State Police 5th District Computer Crimes Unit and a sample of his blood was sent to the State Police crime laboratory in Lansing.
The organizer of the Go Fund Me page, Angie Hartman, says “Any support you can provide this family to ensure Landen gets the best neurological care possible is MUCH appreciated. I have no idea what amount to anticipate but we are getting referrals from some of the best pediatric doctors in the country.”
Why have we not heard about the perpetrator of this crime?
