BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County school districts are planning no changes following Governor Whitmer request on Friday for high school students to go to virtual learning over the next two weeks.
Whitmer asked school districts around the state to make the move on a voluntary basis in an effort to slow the latest surge of COVID-19 cases in the state.
Local officials took to social media to announce their decisions. Bronson Community Schools said they will continue to operate with in-person learning following spring break on Monday, April 12. “Our students’ and staff safety remain a priority, and should we need to move to virtual learning due to a rise in COVID-19 incidents, we will.”
Union City Schools Superintendent Ronna Steel said, “Our Extended Continuity of Learning Plan requires us to follow the recommendation of our local health department. However, the Branch County Health Department has not given us any guidance either way. In the absence of their directive, we will remain open.”
In a statement from Quincy Community Schools, they planned to follow its normal schedule and continue with in-person learning as we return from Spring Break on Monday, April 12, 2021. Officials said “in order to keep the school open and provide the safest environment we can for all staff and students, it is imperative that students who are sick or displaying any COVID-19 symptoms remain at home until they recover and/or COVID-19 is ruled out.”
There will be no changes at Coldwater High School as they will remain on a hybrid schedule for at least two weeks after spring break.
Please note that this is not accurate for Coldwater Schools-Coldwater High School will be returning to our hybrid model for the two weeks after spring break as we have been announcing for several weeks and not a virtual model.
