COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals took advantage of a two-out error in the last of the sixth to break open a close game as they defeated Traverse City St. Francis 10-5 at Lowe Field on Saturday.
The win improved the Cardinals record to 2-0.
A steal of home plate gave St. Francis a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth before Coldwater’s six-run uprising in the bottom half of the frame which featured the third lead change of the game.
The Cardinals came back to tie game at 5-5 in the last of the sixth on a sacrifice bunt by Brady McFarland.
The flood gates opened after Aiden Marsden reached base on a two out error. Logan Farmer smacked an RBI double, Cole Heineman followed with a two run double and Cole Barker delivered a RBI triple.
Joe Closson had an RBI ground out during a three-run second and delivered a two-out RBI single in the last of the fourth. Closson came on in relief in the top of the sixth and got the final five outs of the game to earn the win.
The game was part of the Cardinals annual tournament sponsored by Southern Michigan Bank and Trust. Coldwater was scheduled to play Coloma on Saturday afternoon but the game was rained out.
