Gary A. “Shorty” Milliman, 70, of Coldwater, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
Gary had been under the care of Hospice of Hillsdale. Gary slipped silently from his earthly home to his eternal home surrounded by his two best friends, Tammie Mueller and Randy Michael, Sr. Gary’s youngest god-daughter, Harper Mueller-Michael was also present upon his passing.
Public visitation for Gary “Shorty” Milliman will be held Wednesday and Thursday, April 14 and 15 from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy. Face coverings and social distancing are required. Funeral and graveside services will be private.
Gary was the second child of Raymond and Betty (Green) Milliman, his older sister, Pamelia of Coldwater survives. Gary was born April 9, 1951 in Coldwater. He spent his youth working on the family farm and honing his mechanical skills. In April 1970, he married Barbara Heiney and that union resulted in the birth of Michelle (Milliman) Estrada of Shallowater, TX who blessed Gary with two granddaughters, Jordan and Brandi. In 1973, Gary was blessed with a son, Gary Proctor of Reading, who blessed “Shorty” with three more grandchildren, Emily, Katie and Peyton. “Shorty’s” second wife was Clara Rogers and she gave “Shorty” the gift of a step-son, Billy (Lynn) Rogers of Jackson and have five children whom Gary considered as family.
Most of Gary’s adult life he spent as a truck driver. He’s driven for “Maple Leaf” farms owned by the Knirk family of Quincy. Gary drove for both Cary Trucking companies from Bronson, Gary was assistant manager while working for Polar Environmental, and his last trucking job was pulling for Darling International.
Gary was blessed with the gift for gab. He never met a stranger he didn’t like, would stop to help fellow motorcycle enthusiasts or a trucker in need. He loved taking rides on his motorcycles in warm weather and was very proud to have bought his god-daughters Honda Rebels to learn how to ride. Some of his proudest moments was when his friend Tammie passed her motorcycle endorsement test, after months of training, and when his god-daughter, Jaycie Mueller graduated from high school.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved dog, Rosoe, godson, Avery Mueller-Michael and his second wife, Clara Rogers.
Memorial contributions should be directed to the funeral home for Gary’s funeral expenses.
