LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — While Governor Whitmer has not made any indication that Michigan will enter a new shutdown period, national health officials are urging otherwise, given that Michigan has become one of the biggest COVID-19 hotspots in the world.
“Really what we want to do in these situations is shut things down. I think if we try to vaccinate our way out of what is happening in Michigan, we would be disappointed that it took so long for the vaccine to work.” – C.D.C. Director Rochelle Walensky in a statement Monday
Whitmer instead is asking residents to voluntarily comply with health orders, including avoiding large crowds, washing hands frequently, and wearing a mask in public.
Weekend data released yesterday, which includes statistics from Sunday and Monday, showed 9,674 new cases in the state and 12 additional deaths. Total pandemic cases are now nearing 750,000 in Michigan.
